Modern anesthesia

In our clinic, a highly professional team of anesthesiologists with many years of practical experience will help you prepare for the operation, choose the type of anesthesia that is optimal for you, taking into account your general state of health, the type and duration of the operation. And will also ensure your safety during the operation.

Modern anesthesia

The main task of anesthesia is to relieve the patient of pain and ensure his safety during the operation.

Modern anesthesia solves various problems: assesses preoperative, operative, anesthetic risks.

During the operation, the number of vital signs of the patient monitored by the anesthesiologist can reach 20-30. A specialist who performs general multicomponent anesthesia must monitor the vital monitor, which reproduces the indicators of the main functions of the body, the monitor of the depth of anesthesia and the monitor of the ventilator, as well as adjust the dosage of the anesthetic, which is calculated and administered by special equipment at specified intervals.

Moreover, the work of an anesthesiologist in our institute does not begin and does not end at the exit from the operating room: he consults the patient before a planned surgical intervention, prescribes the necessary tests, accompanies the patient to the operating room, provides anesthetic support, and then monitors his condition not only in the early postoperative period , but also during the entire stay in the clinic.

Opportunities of the anesthesia department of the VIRTUS clinic

We are more than sufficiently provided with opportunities, forces and means to solve the problems that arise before us. In our clinic, both small surgical interventions with local anesthesia and unique neurosurgical operations lasting more than 8-9 hours are performed (in particular, transnasal removal of a tumor of the Turkish saddle of the middle cranial fossa, which is performed jointly by an ENT surgeon and a neurosurgeon). Aesthetic surgery should be singled out separately, where high-quality anesthesia is no less important. Patients who apply for plastic surgery usually have other goals and expectations than urgent ones: they come for beauty, life changes for the better, and therefore want the anesthesia to be gentle and safe as well.

Every professional who loves his job, understands its nuances and thoroughly knows all the features (and these are our anesthesiologists), is capable, if necessary, of conducting anesthesia with one pain reliever, but this skill is revealed in a completely different way when there is an opportunity to work in a modern operating room with the latest anesthetic equipment — German Draeger stations, which enable anesthesia for patients aged 1 day or older.

It is important to note that three anesthesiologists work in our team, including a pediatric anesthesiologist. All of them have significant experience in various departments of surgery (plastic, thoracic, abdominal, emergency, etc.), as well as in intensive care units. This is a multi-year, multi-level experience that makes the work of an anesthesiologist more complete.

popular question

How long does anesthesia take from the body?

A person who woke up in the operating room after the operation is transferred to the intensive care unit only when he fully regains consciousness: performs simple commands and answers simple questions. This is an approach used by anesthesiologists around the world. But it is impossible to say how long the final awakening will take on average, because it depends on many factors: the period of administration of drugs, dosage, duration of the operation, actually on the human body. Since we are all different, coming out of anesthesia is just as individual for everyone.

What is narcosis and how does it affect the body?

Narcosis is a state in which the patient is under the influence of drugs selected by an anesthesiologist. Its task is to protect against pain and unpleasant sensations, as well as to ensure the safety of the patient during surgery. Yes, there are situations when anesthesia worsens the condition of the human body, but if the operation is necessary for vital signs, there is no other way out. Most patients usually wake up after anesthesia and feel good, even mentioning that they finally got some sleep.

How long does fibrogastroduodenoscopy with anesthesia last?

Currently, many studies, including fibrogastroduodenoscopy, are performed under anesthesia, and it is much easier and more pleasant for the patient. FGDS under medicated sleep lasts 3-4 minutes, after which the patient feels rested and receives the result.

In what cases is the use of anesthesia indicated

Anesthesia arose from the fear of pain, so it is used in cases where it is necessary to protect the patient from unpleasant sensations. Its other tasks are to maintain vital functions, the main homeostatic indicators of the body at the required level within the physiological norm. It is not only about surgical interventions: some studies, for example, fibrogastroduodenoscopy, take place faster under anesthesia and make it possible to conduct a more qualitative examination, because the patient is in a medicated sleep and does not suffer from pain, suffocation and belching. The anesthesia lasts a few minutes, but it feels like a sleep of several hours.

As with all other doctors, for anesthesiologists, the safety and health of the patient should always come first. Yes, the surgeon sets the tasks for the anesthesiologist – and in this case he is the main one, because he decides the scope of the operation to be performed on the patient. But it is the anesthesiologist who decides how far the surgeon can go. He determines whether the operation can be reduced or canceled altogether due to absolute contraindications on the part of the patient.

Services and procedures of the anesthesia department

There are many types of anesthesia during operations at our Institute, and each has its own indications and features of provision:

  • infiltrative — local anesthesia of soft tissues during laser removal of papillomas, basal cell skin cancer, neoplasms;
  • conductor anesthesia — is performed with the help of an anesthetic injection, not in the place where the scalpel or laser will work, but in the paraneural space. Such an injection can be done by both a doctor and an anesthesiologist. It is used in particular in dentistry, neurology;
  • intravenous anesthesia is what patients call sleep therapy. It is similar to general anesthesia, but the patient sleeps and breathes independently. In this way, many studies are currently being conducted (fibrogastroduodenoscopy, colonoscopy);
  • general anesthesia — depends on the patient’s condition, the type and duration of the operation (for example, general anesthesia during breast endoprosthesis will differ from a complex several-hour ENT operation);
  • regional anesthesia — continued epidural and spinal. This is turning off the sensitivity of the lower part of the body. Regional anesthesia is used for abdominoplasty, urological and gynecological operations, and operations on the lower extremities. Thanks to it, intubation and artificial ventilation of the lungs can be avoided – after the injection, the patient falls into a drug-induced sleep and wakes up already in the ward;
  • general combined anesthesia (intravenous + conductor + regional) — is used, as a rule, in simultaneous operations;
  • pediatric anesthesia.

There is an opinion that xenon anesthesia is the best option, but it is necessary to separate the patient’s feelings from the tasks facing the anesthesiologist and surgeon. In our clinic, we perform state-of-the-art anesthesia with low use of both gaseous and intravenous anesthetics. So there is simply no need for xenon anesthesia.

The pharmacology of the drugs we use in anesthesiology and the equipment itself have changed significantly over the past 20 years, and therefore both falling asleep and waking up are imperceptible and as comfortable as possible for the patient.

Consultation of anesthesiologist

Consultation of an anesthesiologist is not a simple formality, but a mandatory procedure that is carried out for the safety of the patient during anesthesia. Yes, some analyzes can be sent by messenger, but in any case, the anesthesiologist needs to see the patient with his own eyes and assess many factors that cannot be checked online: cognition, psycho-emotional status, body structure, state of teeth, how a person breathes and behaves. All this will affect anesthesia care.

The consultation usually lasts 15-20 minutes, depending on the number of questions. The patient must bring all the necessary documents with him, the set of tests before the operation is not subject to correction.
