Preparation for blepharoplasty
Preparation for blepharoplasty begins with a consultation with a plastic surgeon. The doctor examines the patient, questions him about complaints, identifies possible contraindications. The next step is to talk to the anesthesiologist and get a blood test. If you have vision problems, such as dry eyes, farsightedness, you need to see an ophthalmologist.
After all planned examinations, the patient is assigned the date and time of the operation, and additional recommendations are given. They should be performed at home a day before surgery.
Stages of blepharoplasty
Regardless of the purpose of the operation – lifting of the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, removal of bags, blepharoplasty includes the following stages:
- Administration of anesthesia to the patient.
- Direct surgical intervention on the eyelids. Skin removal, wrinkle correction, lifting, etc.
- Removal from anesthesia.
- Rehabilitation.

During the operation, the patient does not feel anything. Just inserting the catheter into the vein can cause discomfort. Depending on the type of blepharoplasty, the time and stages of the process differ.
In general, there are several types of eyelid lifting:
- Classic operation.
It is carried out using small incisions. During the lifting of the upper eyelid, an incision is made directly in the fold of the eyelid. At the same time, excess skin is removed and expressiveness is returned to the eyes. A lower eyelid lift involves a seam along the line of eyelash growth, without touching them. After lifting, the condition of the eyelid muscles improves, the bags under the eyes disappear. Circular blepharoplasty is performed on both eyelids and aims to comprehensively rejuvenate the skin around the eyes.
- Transconjunctival blepharoplasty.
This is a seamless type of lifting that is performed without large surgical incisions. All manipulations are carried out through a small hole in the conjunctiva. The operation is performed when fatty hernias are present, but there is no excess skin on the eyelids. This is due to the fact that it is impossible to remove sagging folds with the help of conjunctival puncture. But transconjunctival blepharoplasty allows you to get rid of bags under the eyes. Therefore, it is prescribed to patients up to 38-40 years old who do not yet have pronounced problems.
The type of operation is chosen by the doctor after consultation and examination of the patient.
At the VIRTUS Institute, simultaneous (combined) operations are carried out, which involve the performance of several types of surgical interventions at once under one anesthesia. Blepharoplasty can be combined with an operation to improve vision or plastic surgery of the face, breasts (using implants or lipofilling), other areas of the body.
